Innovation and Research have always been an integral part of our institute and to aid this we need manifold new advanced tools, techniques, and skills. BPCL conducted a one day workshop on Research Support e-Resources, Tools & Techniques and Scholarly Publishing on 27th October 2016.
The workshop started with the inauguration by our former interim director Prof R.K. Sahoo in presence of Prof Krishna Parmanik, TEQIP–II Coordinator, Dr. I.R.N Goudar, Adjunct Professor, Mangalore University and Visiting Professor Cum Library Advisor, Bangalore University Library, Dr. Bhojaraju Gunjal, Head & Deputy Librarian, Biju Patnaik Central Library, NITR students and faculty members.
The main motive was to create awareness amongst the NITR junta. The workshop gave the participants an idea about research Support tools and Techniques, Scholarly Publishing, Ethics of Research and Publishing, Scholarly writing Skills, E-resources, Citation Styles and Tools concerned, Copyright Issues, Research Quality Indicators, Preparing Research Profile Report, Open Access Resources (e-journals, e-Theses, e-Patents, e-Reports etc.), Predatory Journals, Plagiarism, Tips for Visibility for boosting visibility of publications and many more diverse areas.
The workshop was held in four sessions with the first three sessions headed by Dr. I.R.N Goudar and the 4th session headed by Dr. Bhojaraju Gunjal. It was a day-long workshop from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Post-graduate students, research scholars and faculty members attended the workshop.
Dr. I. R. N. Goudar was really impressed by the active participation and opined,
There was an active participation by the research scholars. Even though the workshop went on for the whole day, the participants patiently listened to each and every session. They were really interactive and I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. This is my first visit to Odisha and I must say coming to NIT and conducting this Program was really worthwhile and gave me immense pleasure. I have already conducted this program in 50 different colleges but doing the same thing in an institute of national repute is a different feeling altogether.
When asked whether the research procedure varies from a technical institute to universities like Mangalore University where he is an adjunct professor and which basically imparts a higher education in the field of arts, commerce, science, law and management he opined that although there is a difference between an engineering college and a non-technical university, by and large, there are lot of commonalities barring the methodology. Irrespective of which field you are in, research opportunities exist and in order to utilize them judiciously, you need the basic ideas that have been touched upon, in the course of this workshop.
Dr. Bhojaraju Gunjal, one of the coordinators of the workshop said,
It was really a successful program and I really thank TEQIP for sponsoring this workshop. I also thank Mr Manish Okade for jointly coordinating this workshop with me. The turnout was quite good with more than 120+ participants. We got quite positive feedbacks from a large number of participants who want such workshops to be conducted more often.
The event came to an end with Dr. I. R. N. Goudar handing over the certificate of participation to the students.
